That you are visiting our website may indicate that you are looking for a church home. We are grateful that you have put Bethel on your list! There are many excellent churches in the Northfield area so we encourage you to look around.
We invite you to worship with us on Sunday morning and sense the excitement we feel as a congregation in Christ. Our purpose and identity can be summed up in one phrase: Building Disciples for Christ and his Kingdom. Information on this website will tell the story of our disciple-making work with children, youth and adults. It is our hope that you may find some connections between your interests and our ministries.
If, after you have completed your visits to congregations on your short list, you wish to become part of this congregation, our Membership Team will help you through that process. But there’s no hurry. Take your time. The choice of a new congregation is truly one of the most important decisions you can make. In the meantime, you are always welcome here.
Pastor Timothy P. McDermott
We are excited about our church community. We believe Bethel Lutheran Church is a place where we are called by Christ to care for you. If there is anything that makes our church special, it is the mutual love and support that we experience together. We share many different kinds of activities: worship, social service ministries, children’s and youth ministries, Bible study, fellowship and support group ministries. The common thread running throughout our many activities is our commitment to love Jesus Christ and to support and care for one another.
The only requirement for membership in a Christian congregation is Holy Baptism. If you are baptized, you are welcome to join this congregation. If you wish to be baptized, please call the church office to schedule a meeting with Pastor Tim or Pastor Becca.
Several times each year we will offer a Membership Matters workshop to assist prospective members with their decision. Using a working-lunch format, this session (held after the second service) will provide you with information about our Bethel congregation, its mission and ministries, and our hopes and dreams for the future. Several Staff members will be on hand with helpful information to share. While not required, participation in a Membership Matters event may help you decide if Bethel is the right congregation for you.
You are welcome to join our staff for an informal pizza lunch and conversation at the next Membership Matters event, which is typically held in October and in April each year, from noon to 1:30 pm. Nursery is provided and all are welcome!
Contact the church office to find out when the next Membership Matters is being held.
Twice each year we will recognize all who have joined the congregation since the last new member event with a public reception during worship and a fellowship meal to follow worship that day.
Please contact us if we can be of assistance to you as you discern the leading of the Spirit and (if you choose) become a member of this church. Your partnership will be gratefully received and celebrated by our Bethel community.
